Civic Leader and Convener

HDI supports community development in Haiti and international philanthropic collaboration for Haiti by serving as a civic hub

Public awareness and civic participation are critical components of a thriving society.  HDI creates platforms for civic engagement and provides space for disciplined dialogues to support local leaders’ efforts to transform their communities.

HDI also serves as a convener of leaders in philanthropy and development interested in collaborating on solutions to Haiti’s most pressing challenges.

Community Engagement

Civil society organizations are essential actors in mobilizing people, raising awareness of community needs, advocating for change and engaging constructively with local government. We bring stakeholders together across communities and sectors to promote public-private partnerships and identify and push levers for change. We help communities come together to form a collective vision for what they want for their community and how they can get there.

Convening

HDI brings people together to connect, learn, strategize and collaborate on how to achieve transformative impact in communities and systemic change for an equitable and prosperous Haiti.

Haiti Funders Conferences

One of HDI’s key roles is to serve as the main convener of leaders in philanthropy and development interested in collaborating on solutions to Haiti’s most pressing challenges.  Haiti Funders Conferences aim to increase the amount and impact of philanthropy directed to Haiti by providing a space for current and potential funders to come together to

  • learn about success stories and consult with peers on challenges;

  • hear from experts on current economic and other trends and drivers of development; and

  • look for opportunities to pursue collective action through significant initiatives in promising areas where integrated investments can achieve systemic impact.

Conferences are highly participatory and provide ample time and space for participants to network, which is key to building a community of Haiti funders that serves as an ongoing resource for future coordination and collaboration.

Haiti Development Forum

HDI has created a convening platform called the Haiti Development Forum to serve as an umbrella for diverse convenings with diverse partners in service of effective development in Haiti. In addition to the Haiti Funders Conference series, HDI and partners organize a variety of conferences and events for stakeholders within Haiti to advance community development, strengthen sectors and pursue systemic change. These include most recently an in-person conference for 225 local leaders from earthquake-affected communities on Strengthening Haitian-led Disaster Response and Preparedness held June 9-11, 2022 in Les Cayes, Haiti and the 5th Haiti Funders Conference for 180 participants representing 123 organizations supporting development assistance in Haiti, held June 12-14, 2023 in Washington, D.C.

See www.haitidevelopmentforum.org for more information about current and past convenings.
